Explains the Unexplainable
The people of Mesopotamia created a religious system of worshipping many Gods and Goddesses, because it seemed like the only logical explanation for what was happening in their civilization. For example, when it rained, everyone was clueless to how it was occurring because science hadn't been introduced in this time period. To comfort them, the Mesopotamians worshiped Enki, the God of water and patron when it rained. The conception of Gods and Goddesses put the people at ease because they had found a solution for the unexplainable.
Purpose of Religion
One reason the people of Mesopotamia created their religion was to explain the unexplainable, as I previously stated. They also were looking for something that could guide them spiritually and ethnically, and creating a form of religion was the perfect solution. The religion of Mesopotamia is known as the oldest belief system in the world. From this fact we can conclude that all religions have evolved and branched off of the Mesopotamians.
Gods and Goddesses
The people of Mesopotamia worshiped many Gods. Their system of religion is similar to the Greek Mythology concept, because both believe that Gods and Goddesses are creating their world.
Adad or Ishkur - god of storms
Ashur or Enlil - god of the wind
Listed above are two of the main Mesopotamian Gods that were worshipped.
